Moon Trick
by Sarah Ashwood
To glades of dark shadows
Where fireflies glow
An elvish maid fled
True freedom to know
A king's lovely daughter
But a prisoner, she
Would not wed the one
Assigned by the king
She scorned him, she fled
Into enchanted glade
A pursuer was sent
To track down the maid
Her father's chief warrior
Not elvish was he
But human, and fleeing
His past, just like she
But in that dark glade
A spell still resides
Cast long, long ago by
The mistress of tides
When moonlight is full
One kiss it will seal
A man and maiden
For woe and for weal
Therefore when he caught her
So desperate was she
She'd fain make a bargain
One kiss for liberty
Before he could answer
She gave him that kiss
In her arms he found healing
He tasted deep bliss
The mistress of tides
Her name was the Moon
Her spell wove about them
With a magical loom
Together they two
On drawing apart
Felt love's swift arrow
Piercing their hearts
And so hand in hand
The human, the elf
Fled her fair kingdom
Pursuing sweet wealth
But not wealth of kingdoms
Of silver or gold
Their wealth was true love
Which cannot be sold
Eventually, happiness
They one day will find
With rings and with vows
Their fates they will bind
